Artist Statement:
My name is Claudio Parentela. I am 62 years old, I live in Calabria (Italy), a harsh, wild, beautiful region… harsh and wild-wild, like me… art allows me to travel to very distant worlds close to and inside me, it is a black and white catharsis that has lasted for 30 years. I like to be free, it is essential for me to feel free. Art allows me to feel true, real, in sync with my heart. I draw, cut, paint, sew, glue, photograph professionally since 1995. I love tarot cards, Aurobindo & Mère, Diamanda Galas, Sarah Vaughan, Nick Drake, high fashion, underground comics, my beloved books, my cats… and much more.
Claudio Parentela
Born in Catanzaro (1962-Italy), where he lives and works, Claudio Parentela is an illustrator, painter, digital painter, photographer, mail artist, cartoonist, collagist, textile artist, and freelance journalist. Active for many years in the international contemporary art scene, he has collaborated with many, many zines, magazines of contemporary art and literature, and comics in Italy and in the world.
